Australian tsunami toll raised to 21.

The Australian death toll from the Boxing Day tsunamis has risen to 21. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed that 35-year-old Sydney woman Katherine Glinsky died in Thailand.

Since December 26, DFAT has confirmed that 15 Australian citizens and six permanent residents have died in the tsunami. DFAT continues to hold grave concerns for a further six Australians.

The overall death toll from the tsunamis and the earthquake that caused them stands at more than 273,435. More than 220,000 of those deaths occurred in Indonesia.

SALZBURG (SN). Der Salzburger Benjamin Hofer hat die Flutkatastrophe in Südostasien nicht überlebt. Die Leiche des 36-Jährigen wurde jetzt von einem Team aus Österreich identifiziert. Das bestätigte Montagabend Hermann Rechberger von der Sicherheitsdirektion. Durch eine DNA-Analyse konnte jeder Zweifel an der Identität des 36-Jährigen beseitigt werden. Hofer hatte in Thailand eine Tauchschule betrieben. Am Tag der Flut, dem 26. Dezember, hatte er sich am Strand vor seiner Tauchschule aufgehalten. Angehörige waren nach Thailand geflogen, um nach ihm zu suchen

Carol and Troy mailed us with the news about theit daughter and sister. Besides that they told us that Carine and her boyfriend survived.

We are not sure about their property. Photo's of the guesthouse area make you think that is taken away. But Toy managed to give our stuff to the police. So sweet and it indicates that not everything is totaly damaged....

Benjamin, the manager of our Dive school in Khao Lak is still missing.

Newsfacts of how de devolment of Phi Phi will be in the future:

Readings on the internet gives the idea that rebuilding will take six to twelve months. Latest reports from teh underwater world is that some parts are damaged for 40%. But most parts of Phi Phi area and Similan and Surin Islands has a damaged of about 10%.

So sad :-(

Sacha cremated where she lived and died

THE three-year-old Sydney girl killed by the tsunamis has been cremated in a traditional Thai ceremony at the beach where she lived and died.



Sacha Srikaow, our thoughts are with her parents and family, so sad

Little Sacha Srikaow would play on Phi Phi Island beachfront with her seven-month-old brother Zak.
Their parents, former Bilgola woman Carolyn and her Thai husband Toy, owned and ran a popular restaurant there.
The family's lives changed forever 11 days ago.
Sacha was swept away as she took a walk with aunt Katherine Glinsky, from Sydney's Northern Beaches. Ms Glinsky – Ms Srikaow's sister – is missing.
Family members at the Glinsky family home at Bilgola Plateau were too distressed to say much yesterday.
They said family members were still in Thailand, helping with the search for Ms Glinsky and comforting Sacha's distraught parents.

Sacha is the second youngest known victim to date after six-month-old baby Melina Heppell, from Perth, was swept out of her father's arms as he walked on Patong Beach

Gisteren een dubbel bericht.
Via de site van de bbc te horen gekregen dat zowel Troy en Carol het overleefd hebben. Goed nieuws, maar Carol's zus en kleine Sasha worden vermist, het is inmiddels 18 dagen, is vermist dan een ander woord voor ....?

Sasha, bijdehand, sprak engels en Thai, leerde net fietsen, maar kon niet eens haar pedalen rondtrappen :-). Troy moest haar altijd duwen. Was erg gespannen voor de kerstkadootjes. Fiets had ze dus net gekregen, maar de rest kwam in fasen...

Geprobeerd om in contact te komen, maar nog geen e-mailadressen kunnen vinden:-(

Wellicht had dit bericht er eerder moeten staan:

Joel was een paar dagen eerder op Phi Phi aangekomen met twee vrienden. Onze Nederlandse mede-evacuees herkende hem en wisten wie ze vrienden waren. In de Bangkok post zagen we op dinsdag een foto met een paar toeristen die gewonden hielpen. Ze herkenden daar de vrienden van Joel in.

Daar wordt je blij van en zelfs nu zijn dat lichtpuntjes waar je graag aan terugdenkt.

Tsunami

Wat je hiervan moet leren is me nog volslagen onduidelijk. Je moet er sterker uitkomen, dat wel. Als een mens dat niet doet, dan heeft de wereld een groot probleem lijkt me. Ook al is het moeilijk.
Het meest frapante vind ik nog wel, eigenlijk heel stom, maar dat nu iedereen weet wat een Tsunami is, had er nog nooit van gehoord??
